No one is at all surprised that Netflix will produce a follow-up to the popular movie Extraction from 2020. Extraction is a very enjoyable action thriller that is based on the comic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman (child fighting aside). With an estimated 90 million households reportedly having watched the film within a month of its release, it’s not surprising that it went on to have the biggest premiere in Netflix’s history.
Chris Hemsworth plays a brand-new action hero in Sam Hargrave’s and Joe Russo’s Extraction, which has the makings of a franchise. He assumes the character of Tyler Rake, a former member of the Australian special forces who is now a mercenary for black operations. Rake was hired in the first movie to find the kidnapped son of a mafia boss. He ultimately went above and above the call of duty, putting his life in danger to make sure the kidnapped boy was safe. Actually, he didn’t only endanger his life; it appeared as though he had passed away.
Rake obviously survives to fight another day, just like any good action hero. Extraction 2 hasn’t been given many official details as of yet, but the first film already had a sizable fan base that is eagerly anticipating the sequel.

After wrapping up filming in April of this year, Chris Hemsworth’s lead role in the high-octane action film Extraction from 2020 now has a release date. The upcoming film is anticipated to premiere on Netflix (The Vampire Diaries Season 9) in 2023.
Hemsworth played Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces officer turned mercenary, in the movie Extraction, which was based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks. Tyler is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of a crime lord. Rake was able to save the youngster, but the film’s conclusion appeared to be his demise. However, a trailer for the sequel, which debuted at TUDUM last year, made it plain that Rake would live to fight another day.
Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour were among the actors who appeared in the first movie in addition to Hemsworth, but as of right now, we just know that Hemsworth will be back for the sequel.
The film’s writer, Joe Russo, discussed how the sequel differs from the original in an interview with Collider’s Steven Weintraub in late June of this year by stating it “has a unique color scheme. It takes place in a distinct region of the planet. The tone and speed are different from the first one. We find that to be an intriguing technique to serialize a story because it keeps things fresh and unexpected while ensuring that you won’t see the same movie again.”
Even if Extraction 2’s plot’s finer points are still a secret, we do know that several familiar faces are involved in its production. Sam Hargrave, who made his feature film debut with the first movie, will once more take the helm, while Joe Russo will once more write the narrative. Through their AGBO production firm, Joe and Anthony Russo will also produce the movie. Along with acting in the movie, Hemsworth will also work as its producer.
This news was released not long after it was revealed that The Gray Man, a spy thriller directed by the Russo Brothers and starring Ryan Gosling, would also get a sequel and spin-off movie. With it previously being revealed that the AGBO team hopes to grow the Extraction franchise beyond just this future sequel, both movies appear to be adhering to the Russos’ intention to expand each of these films into their own universes.
In 2023, Extraction 2 is scheduled for release. A brief preview for the next sequel is provided below.
