The streaming giant Netflix has announced that it will end the drama series “Firefly Lane” with a final second season. With an extra-long season, the finale is to be celebrated around Kate and Tully’s friendship.

The Netflix drama “Firefly Lane” will come to an end with the second season. To celebrate the end of the series, the last season will consist of 16 episodes, which will be released in two parts on Netflix. The final season is six episodes longer than the first.
The first eight episodes of season 2 will be released on December 2, 2022 and the second half with another eight episodes will be released in the course of the coming year 2023.
The first season of “Firefly Lane” ended with a big cliffhanger. Two friends, Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke), fall out after Tully did something unforgivable to her friend. What exactly happened is so far unclear. However, the original book reveals more.
We’ll get the answer to that question in the upcoming second season. Then we also learn how Kate is coping with her husband Johnny’s (Ben Lawson) mission to Iraq and how Tully is building her new career after the end of her show. She will also go in search of her father, whom she had never met before.
The leaps in time into the youth of the two women will also be continued in the next season. It’s all about the final years of high school and growing up.

Exactly one month before the start of Firefly Lane season 2, Netflix released a first trailer. This shows how Tully and Kate slowly fight their way back to life after suffering a number of misfortunes.
We see that Johnny survived the war and his ex-wife Kate is desperately trying to help the man back into a normal everyday life. Tully, on the other hand, is struggling with her past and is trying to regain her footing as a journalist with a documentary about the search for her father. It remains to be seen how well the two women will succeed.
What will Firefly Lane season 2 be about?
During the first season of “Firefly Lane” the death of a main character is repeatedly implied. At first, viewers might think that Kate and her daughter Marah (Yael Yurman) will attend Tully’s funeral.
Then, in the final episode of Season 1, it appears Johnny (Ben Lawson) died in Iraq working as a war correspondent. But “Firefly Lane” reveals at the end that Kate’s father Bud actually passed away. Also, something significant happened between Kate and Tully that casts a shadow over their friendship. However, the Netflix series has not yet revealed exactly what that is. However, the book template already gives an insight into what led to the big argument between Tully and Kate.
Judging from US writer Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane template novels, it was Kate and Tully’s professional collaboration that led to the problems. But the Netflix series could also deviate from the template novels “Firefly Lane” and “Like a Star in the Night” and develop a different drama that revolves around some of the series’ supporting characters.
Incidentally, in an interview with Oprah Magazine, actress Katherine Heigl ruled out that her character Tully slept with Johnny. Heigl stated, “I don’t think any friendship could survive something like this.”
