Attention fantasy fans: Before “The Witcher” continues with its fourth season, a new movie is joining Netflix’s line-up. A few well-known stars are even returning for the project.
Last summer, Netflix brought us the final episodes of The Witcher season 3 with Henry Cavill as the titular witcher, with Liam Hemsworth taking on the iconic role in the next season. But before that, the streaming service is bringing you a movie that was recently announced as part of Geeked Week.
With “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”, Netflix delivers an animated film that is officially part of “The Witcher” canon. The plot is set in the timeline of the series between episodes five and six of the first season. The story is based on the short story “A Small Sacrifice” from the book “The Sword of Providence” by Andrzej Sapokowski.
In “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”, Geralt von Riva travels to the port city of Bremervoord for an assignment. Initially, he is supposed to act as an interpreter for Prince Agloval of Bremervoord and the siren Sh’eenaz, but before the monster hunter knows it, he finds himself in the middle of a centuries-old conflict between humans and sea creatures. Together with old and new allies, the Witcher sets out to solve a mystery before the situation between the two races threatens to escalate.
A first teaser for “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” has already been released. Here you can get an idea of the animation style:
These stars are in “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”
Fans of the video game series may be familiar with the name Doug Cockle, as the 53-year-old actor has always lent his voice to Geralt of Riva in the games. However, after there was no trace of the adult Geralt in the animated film “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” and Doug Cockle was therefore not heard, he is now returning to the dubbing booth for the production of “The Witcher: Siren of the Deep”.
Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey will also reprise their roles from the Netflix series in the film. While the former actress embodies and voices Yennefer von Vengerberg, the latter star is known for his portrayal of the character Larkspur. Christina Wren has also been confirmed as a new addition to “The Witcher” universe, who will voice the poet Essi Daven in the animated film.
“The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is set to be added to Netflix’s program at the end of 2024.
