According to Jenna Ortega on Wednesday, the Netflix series’ second season will “ditch any romantic love interest in favour of leaning into more darkness and horror.”
Elle Fanning revealed what her primary emphasis would be for the upcoming episode of the well-liked comedic horror series during Ortega’s interview with her for Variety’s Actors on Actors.
Jenna Ortega is becoming more and more prevalent in the industry. She has established herself as one of the new core four for the still-excellent horror series Scream, and she will work with director Tim Burton once more on Beetlejuice 2. But because of the conversations, she was already having with everyone involved, from Burton to the writers, becoming a producer on Wednesday felt right. She enjoyed working with the team that created the series and thought that they did a great job of making her feel heard. Let’s see what she will showcase to us in season 2.
What Jenna Ortega has to say about season 2 of the most awaited series “Wednesday”?
The actress from Scream VI has always wanted the show to embrace its darkness a little more, and it appears that Season 2 will achieve just that. “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” she explained. You shouldn’t take yourself too seriously when watching a show like this with vampires, werewolves, and superpowers because it is so playful. Naturally, that also means less attention being paid to the love subplots, letting Wednesday be Wednesday, and perhaps creating more space for her other relationships to shine, such as with her roommate Enid (Emma Myers). Wednesday will be free of any romantic interest, which is fantastic.
According to Collider, Wednesday likely won’t return for a second season until sometime in 2024; a prospect made all the more uncertain by the ongoing writer’s strike. Despite the new season being so far away, it was critical to Ortega that discussions with the writers’ room start early in order to iron out some of the details and get a feel for what the new episodes would bring to the table.
Although playing Wednesday was something she initially turned down multiple times, it proved to be not just one of her most successful roles but also a liberating one in her eyes. More input from the star, and more of the creepy, kooky elements of the Addams Family world, could very well make Season 2 even better than its predecessor. And just like all the Addams family lovers, even we can’t wait to see the adventurous journey of Wednesday!
