Kengan Ashura Season 3 News
Kengan Ashura is a martial arts manga written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. Shogakukan serialized it from April 2012 to August 2018. The manga has been collected into 27 volumes and one extra volume. The English translation is digitally licensed by Comikey.
The manga was chosen as the winner of a fan vote held by Ura Sunday in January 2015. The vote was to decide which manga would receive an anime adaptation. Kengan Ashura received 2.3 million votes out of 9 million in May 2015. However, the anime adaptation was delayed for several years. It was not until 2018 that the staff and cast were revealed.
The anime was produced by Larx Entertainment and distributed worldwide by Netflix. The anime’s first season consisted of 24 episodes, divided into two parts. The first part was released on Netflix on July 31, 2019, and the second part was released on October 31, 2019.
There was some confusion among fans about the numbering of the seasons. Netflix labeled the first season as Part 1 and Part 2, while some other sources considered them as separate seasons. To avoid ambiguity, we will refer to them as Season 1 Part 1 and Season 1 Part 2.
The anime follows the story of Tokita Ohma, a fighter who participates in underground gladiator battles on behalf of wealthy and powerful businessmen. He joins the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, a competition that determines the fate of Japan’s corporate world. He faces many formidable opponents along the way, while also uncovering his past and his connection to the mysterious Tokita Niko.
Season 1 Part 2 ended with Ohma’s victory over Raian in the tournament’s second round. He advanced to the quarter-finals, where he will face Wakatsuki Takeshi. There are still two more rounds after that: the semi-finals and the finals.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the continuation of the anime, but there was no official announcement for a long time. However, on March 23, 2022, Netflix Japan Anime confirmed that Kengan Ashura Season 3 (or Season 2 Part 1) was in production and would be released in 2023 . The editor of Kengan Omega, the sequel manga to Kengan Ashura, also stated that Season 3 would cover the rest of the original manga’s story until the end of the tournament.
On August 31, 2022, Netflix Anime revealed a new key visual for Season 3, featuring Ohma and his next opponent Wakatsuki. On March 2, 2023, The Washington Dispatch reported that Season 3 would be released in September 2023. Netflix Anime and Netflix France also confirmed this on March 22, 2023.
Season 3 is expected to adapt chapters 150 to 256 of the manga, which will conclude Ohma’s journey in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. Fans can look forward to seeing more intense and thrilling fights and more revelations about Ohma’s past and future.
