“Magnum P.I.” a NBC drama series will conclude after the second part of Season 5, as the network has decided not to continue the show beyond that. The series, which was originally canceled by CBS and later picked up by NBC, will not be renewed for a sixth season.
This decision comes amidst the ongoing 50-day WGA strike and the possibility of a strike by SAG-AFTRA following the expiration of the actors union’s contract with the AMPTP on June 30. Interestingly, this date aligns with the end of the cast’s agreements with NBC for “Magnum P.I.“

“NBC’s Dilemma: Options Explored to Save ‘Magnum P.I.’ amid Uncertain Production and Actor Contracts”
In order to avoid canceling the show, NBC faced two options: either order additional episodes without certainty regarding production timelines or extend the actors’ contracts to allow for more time to make a decision. Ultimately, NBC decided to release the actors and proceed without including “Magnum P.I.” in its lineup. “Magnum P.I.” was a reboot of the 1980s series featuring Tom Selleck in the lead role.
The modern version starred Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum, a highly decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning from Afghanistan, used his military expertise to become a private investigator. He supplemented his work by serving as a security consultant on a luxurious estate called Robin’s Nest, where he resided in a guest cottage.
