My Happy Marriage streaming on Netflix has created a greater curiosity among manga fans. The light novel adapted into an episodic series, yesterday released its first episode. The anime greets the fans with a sorrowful tone and peeks into the despondent life of Miyo Saimori, who has no meaning in her existence. She is just like a showpiece that merges with the background without any sole identity.

My Happy Marriage Episode 1: The Meeting: Departure leads to disheartening
The episode opens up with a small girl carrying under a cherry blossom tree and a young standing beside her trying to confront her when suddenly that tree catches fire and young Miyo’s reality reflects her. Miyo Saimori, a nineteen-year-old girl is nothing but a servant in her own house. Her father doesn’t speak very heartily with her, her stepmom disposes of her and her younger step-sister Kaya is just happy to humiliate her and despises her. She never talked back but just bow down and say her apologies for the inconvenience.
Koji Tatsuishi is the only friend in her town who is her good friend and is also in love with her. He brings her sweets and candies to make her smile but she doesn’t smile or laugh at anything. She is also somehow contented that at least she has Koji to talk to. One day she learns that her father has called Koji in the house to talk to him, could be Miyo and Koji’s marriage but Koji is to be taking Kaya’s hand in marriage. Miyo is disheartened and now her only peace with Koji is also taken away from her.

She expected to marry Koji so that she can escape this limbo of disparity and unhappiness but looks like she is destined to be a servant and slave her entire life. She is asked to leave the house as she is given in marriage to a commander Kiyoka Kudo who lives far from her mother’s resting place. She doesn’t have much to pack and upon reaching the premises, greets the gentleman with a bow, and the minute she raises her head to see Kudo, she is awestruck by the man’s charm and handsomeness.
My Happy Marriage: Love is Blooming
Through the first episode, we got the idea that life seems to be very unfair in Miyo’s case. She has slowly and gradually accepted her life in her father’s house and her future in her husband’s home. Accepting her fate is not her choice but to surrender to it.

In the upcoming episodes of My Happy Marriage, Miyo will see that the rumors surrounding her would-be husband are not true and he is a very nice gentleman and for the first time in her life, she will feel liberated from years of loneliness and despair. 3.5 stars out of 5
The new episodes of My Happy Marriage air every Wednesday at 8 pm on Netflix.
