In 1990s caused a stir in the royal family. The dark period, which the Queen will later refer to as “Annus horribilis” (Horrible Year), began with the life crises of her children and ended with a devastating fire at Windsor Castle and the divorce of Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Charles (Dominic West).
The trailer shows how Charles dreams of a “modern monarchy”. However, his mother does not account for her reign, but for the scandals of the family for the displeasure of the people. The Crown Prince has reconnected with his childhood sweetheart Camilla in light of his failing marriage.
Diana, on the other hand, is trying to leave royalty behind. Diana’s famous interview is shown, in which she reckoned up her time at the royal court. She tells the public about the royal and media pressures that weigh on her.

With the fifth season there is also a change in the cast. Imelda Staunton (” Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix “) replaces Olivia Coleman (“Heartstopper“) to play the Queen. Jonathan Pryce (“Game of Thrones“) stars as Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip, and Elizabeth Debicki (” Tenet “) and Dominic West (“Brassic”) play the feuding couple Diana and Charles.
Also starring is Lesley Manville (“Mrs. Harris and a Dior Dress”) as Princess Margaret, Olivia Williams (“The Nevers”) as Camilla Parker-Bowles and Jonny Lee Miller (” Elementary “) as British Prime Minister John Major.
The series “The Crown” received the Emmy for best drama series in 2021. The four main actors Olivia Coleman (Elisabeth II), Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), Josh O’Connor (Prince Charles) and Gillian Anderson (Margaret Thatcher) also received the coveted award.
The sixth season of The Crown is currently in production. However, work was initially paused out of respect for the Queen’s recent death.
