Two popular anime save KADOKAWA’s quarterly report

Don't miss

Japanese media giant KADOKAWA recently published its first quarterly report for the current fiscal year and can only look back on a sufficient balance in the “anime” category.

KADOKAWA: Only anime convinces

Two popular anime save KADOKAWA's quarterly report

Of course, a corporation like KADOKAWA regularly writes green figures, but if you compare the current quarterly report for the months of April 2023 to June 2023 with the same period last year, the overall profit dropped sharply by 49.7% from 7.64 billion yen (about 48.94 million euros) to 3.84 billion yen (about 24.60 million euros).

Of all the business segments, only the video sector not only confirmed its balances from the previous year, but even significantly exceeded them. Sales rose by 15.2% from 9.26 billion yen to 10.66 billion yen. Looking at the pure profit after deduction of all costs, this even increased by 120.2% from 680 million yen to 1.50 billion yen (9.61 million euros).

In addition to the general income from licensing, the financial report explicitly listed the two titles “Oshi no Ko” and “KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World” in this context, as they played a very large part in the success.

For those who want a deeper look into the numbers and the other business segments, the summary announcement can be found here with English translation.
